The Plana blog is open
In short
- The blog has two kinds of posts: guides to working-time questions in restaurants and updates about new Plana features.
- Guides are based on the text of the Working Hours Act and MaRa TES, and each one ends with its sources.
- Guides are published in Finnish first, and English versions follow.
What you'll find here
In a restaurant, the roster is much more than a timetable. It decides whether the hours add up, whether rest times hold and how much pay each person earns. The same questions come up every period, and the answers are spread across the law, the collective agreement and its protocols. We collect them here, one topic at a time:
- The three-week period: how hours are counted and how they balance over the period.
- Rest times: rest between shifts, days off and weekly rest.
- Supplements: Sunday and evening supplements, additional work and overtime.
- Publishing the roster: when the roster must reach your staff and what you may change after that.
Posts are grouped by topic, so every side of one question is in one place.
How the guides are written
Every guide starts with a short summary and ends with its sources. Anything that refers to the law or the collective agreement is checked against the original text: the Working Hours Act on Finlex and MaRa TES on the association's site. When the text changes, the guide is updated and the update date appears under the title.
A guide is not legal advice. If your situation is unclear, ask your own association.
New in Plana
When Plana gets a new feature or a notable change, we explain it here: what changed, who it is for and where to find it. Updates are short, and they link to the feature's own page when there is one.
How Plana helps
Plana runs the same checks the guides describe while you plan. The TES check looks at rest times, days in a row and period hours as you go, and an illegal shift won't save. Salaried staff's hours balance over the three-week period. A change to a published shift applies once the employee accepts it. See every feature on the features page.
