Plana

You change a shift, the check follows at once.

Plana checks every change in the browser at once: a restaurant account meets up to 36 different checks, and every flag carries a level. A change that adds a legal-level conflict can’t be saved.

The demo restaurant’s week reads 0 legal-level and 0 TES-level flags.

When to use it

When you drag a shift to another day or add someone to a shift, you would have to count for yourself whether 11 hours of rest are left between shifts and whether the period stays within 15 working days.

How it works

  1. Edit the roster

Create, change or drag a shift. The check reruns at once, and while you drag, the cell turns red if the shift would be blocked.

  2. Read the top bar count

The top bar of the Plan page reads “N law, N TES, N notes”. Open TES notes: the list is grouped by level, employee and date.

  3. Deal with the flag

A change that adds a legal-level conflict has to be fixed before it can be saved, but TES-level and notice-level flags can be saved. Only the owner can override the block with emergency work, giving a reason.

  4. Publish

On publishing, the whole roster is checked again. A legal-level conflict not covered by an emergency-work declaration blocks publishing.

By hand and with Plana

By hand

  • You count for yourself whether 11 hours of rest are left between shifts.

  • You keep track of the working days between days off and of the 15 working days per period.

  • You recheck everything by hand after every change.

With Plana

  • Every change is rechecked in the browser, and every flag carries a level, and those based on law or the TES carry a section number.

  • While you drag, the cell turns red if the shift would be blocked on drop.

  • The server checks the legal level before saving and the whole roster before publishing.

Example: week 37 at the demo restaurant

The demo restaurant’s published week of 7–13 September 2026 (the employees are made up). The week’s check reads 0 legal-level flags, 0 TES-level flags and 0 open shifts.

The rules Plana watches

  • 11 hrest between shiftsMaRa TES 7 § 4.
  • 4–10 hshift lengthMaRa TES 7 § 3.
  • 15working days per periodMaRa TES 8 § 1.
  • 48 ha week on average, overtime includedWorking Hours Act 18 §.
  • There are at least 11 hours of rest between shifts. By agreement it can be shorter, but never under 8 hours. Under 8 hours is a legal-level conflict, 8 to 11 hours a TES-level flag.

    MaRa TES 7 § 4.
  • A shift is at least 4 hours (shorter on request or for a justified reason) and at most 10 hours; over 10 hours needs the employee’s consent. A day is at most 16 hours. These are TES-level flags.

    MaRa TES 7 § 3.
  • A three-week period has at most 15 working days. Going over is a legal-level conflict.

    MaRa TES 8 § 1.
  • There are at most 7 working days between days off. Going over is a TES-level flag.

    MaRa TES 8 § 2.
  • Weekly rest: V at least 30 hours and X at least 24 hours. A shortfall is a TES-level flag. If you turn off MaRa’s V 30 h agreement in the settings, weekly rest is counted from 35 hours and a shortfall is a legal-level conflict. If seven days contain no unbroken 24 hours of rest, that is a legal-level conflict.

    MaRa TES 8 § 2. · Working Hours Act 27 §.
  • Working time, overtime included, is at most 48 hours a week on average. It is a legal-level conflict only when the reference period’s data is complete. Otherwise the flag is a notice.

    Working Hours Act 18 §.
  • Emergency work may depart from certain sections of the Working Hours Act, only as far as is necessary and for at most two weeks, and the occupational safety authority must be notified in writing. Only the owner can declare it, and a reason is required.

    Working Hours Act 19 §.
  • The roster should be published at least 7 days before the period starts, unless agreed otherwise locally. Plana only reminds you, it doesn’t block.

    MaRa TES 9 § · Working Hours Act 30 §.
  • A 15 to 17-year-old works at most 9 hours a day and 48 hours a week, between 06 and 22; there must be at least 12 hours of uninterrupted rest a day and an unbroken 38 hours off a week. Breaches are legal-level.

Who uses it

Owner
Sees the top bar count and TES notes on the plan screen. Only the owner can declare emergency work. Settings has TES and rules and Local agreement, and the home page has a TES status card.
Manager
Same as the owner, except that they can’t declare emergency work.
Employee
Doesn’t see the TES check. Consent requests (a shift over 10 hours, rest of 8–11 hours) arrive in the employee app.
Accountant
Doesn’t see it.

What it doesn’t do

  • It blocks saving only for legal-level conflicts: TES-level and notice-level flags are shown, but they can be saved.

  • Missing staff isn’t checked here. It shows on the home page, in the coverage on the Reports page and as open shifts on the roster.

  • On the web the flag doesn’t go away even if the employee has given consent in the app: the flags for a shift over 10 hours and for 8–11 hours of rest stay orange.

  • The rules aren’t locked in every respect: In Local agreement you can change, for example, weekly rest, balancing and the publishing lead time.

  • The roster isn’t edited on the phone. The TES chip in a shift lead’s candidate drawer is a preview, and the verdict is made on the server.

  • Only the MaRa TES rules are complete. The retail version is on hold.

  • It isn’t legal advice. The limits come from MaRa TES 2025–2028 and the Working Hours Act (sources archived on 13 August 2026) and from the Young Workers Act (archived on 29 September 2026).

  • Being under 18 is read from the personal identity number. An employee without one is treated as an adult.
